This Week at Confirmation

This Week at Confirmation for Wednesday, November 13, 2019

The Book of Acts is a continuation of the story from Luke's Gospel. It tells us the story of what happens AFTER Jesus' death and resurrection. How the apostles respond, the early church being birthed, and new primary characters being added to the story including a fellow named Saul (aka Paul) who moves from persecuting the early Christ follower movement to being one of, if not the MOST prolific evangelist for the Gospel.
The story of Acts is one of the spreading of the Good News of Jesus Christ at a time when the Roman Empire is pressing in on Jerusalem in a big way and the followers of Jesus are being blotted out as traitors who followed the wrong king. The leaders in the Jewish faith at that time likely felt threatened by Jesus' followers. All the while, Paul pushes to share the gospel with those outside of Jerusalem. These non-Jews are called Gentiles in the Bible. Paul argues that they deserve to hear the Good News, too. Paul goes on a journey of epic proportions to share the story with others and start many new faith communities.

So....
Consider watching these videos with your family. Talk about who the outsiders of the faith might be today. Discuss what it might be like if you were the ones called to spread the news about Jesus in the world where people do not know about him. Read the Book of Acts together.

Key Bible Verse:
Acts 1:8
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
